Section A: Nonya Kueh FAQ — About Our Kueh
Q1 : What is Nonya kueh?
The most common questions in this Nonya kueh FAQ start with the basics — what makes Nonya kueh special and how Kueharmony’s approach differs.
Nonya kueh (also spelled Nyonya kueh) are traditional bite-sized snacks from the Peranakan community — descendants of Chinese immigrants who settled in Southeast Asia and married into local Malay families. The result is a unique cuisine that blends Chinese cooking techniques with Malay and Indonesian ingredients.
Common ingredients include coconut milk, pandan leaves, gula melaka (palm sugar), glutinous rice flour, and tapioca. Popular varieties include Kueh Salat, Ondeh Ondeh, Kueh Lapis, Ang Ku Kueh, and Kueh Dadar. Browse the rest of this Nonya kueh FAQ for ordering details, delivery zones, and storage tips.
At Kueharmony, we make every piece by hand using traditional methods — no machines, no preservatives, no artificial essence. Just real ingredients and proper technique.
Q2 : What makes Kueharmony’s Nonya kueh different?
A few things set us apart:
No preservatives, no essence. We use real pandan leaves, real coconut milk, and real gula melaka — not shortcuts.
Premium Durian Salat and Durian Custard Cassava made with more than 60-year-old Hóng Zhú (红竹) durian trees durian — a heritage variety that’s increasingly rare. This isn’t your typical D24 or MSW durian kueh.
Made fresh to order. We don’t pre-make and store. Your kueh is prepared specifically for your order date.
Reduced sugar. Our recipes are adjusted to be less sweet than traditional versions, suitable for the young or old, without compromising on taste.
We’re a small operation and we keep it that way deliberately — it lets us maintain quality on every tray.
Q3 : Which Nonya kueh is best for weddings and events?
For weddings and celebrations, our most popular choices are:
Premium Kueh Platters — a curated mix presented on a tray, ready to serve. Great for dessert tables.
Create Your Harmony bespoke platters — build your own *selection of
10, 15 to 20 pieces, tailored to your event’s colour theme or guest preferences.
Kueh Salat (Pandan or Durian) — always a crowd favourite and visually striking.
Kueh Lapis — the colourful layers photograph well and guests love the texture.
For wedding door-gifts, our bento-style individual kueh sets work well — contact us on WhatsApp to discuss sizing and logistics. For more event-planning answers, see the ordering and delivery sections of this Nonya kueh FAQ.
Q4 : Does Nonya kueh contain common allergens?
Most traditional Nonya kueh contains one or more of the following:
Coconut (coconut milk, grated coconut) — present in nearly all varieties
Glutinous rice flour / rice flour — the base of most kueh
Eggs — used in some custard-based kueh like Kueh Salat
Pandan — used for flavouring and colouring
Palm sugar (gula melaka) — primary sweetener
Our kueh is nut-free by default unless specified. If you have specific allergies, please let us know when ordering and we’ll advise which items are safe for you.
Q5 : Can I send Nonya kueh as a gift?
Yes — kueh platters are one of our most popular gift options. Here’s what works well:
Premium Kueh Platters — ready-to-gift with a curated selection
Create Your Harmony — pick the exact kueh your recipient would enjoy
We can deliver directly to the recipient’s address with a message
Popular gifting occasions: Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, housewarming, “thank you” gifts for clients, and baby full-month celebrations. For delivery zones and rates, see Section E of this nonya kueh FAQ.
Q6 : Do you offer same-day Nonya kueh delivery?
We don’t offer same-day delivery as a standard option, because every order is made fresh — not pulled from pre-made inventory. We recommend 3 days’ advance notice for regular orders. That said, if you need kueh on shorter notice, message us on WhatsApp at (65) 8321-1257. If our production schedule allows it, we’ll try to accommodate you.
Q7 : What is Durian Salat and why is it special?
Durian Salat is our take on the classic Kueh Salat — instead of the traditional pandan custard layer, we use real durian pulp from a more than 60-year-old Hóng Zhú (红竹) durian trees.
Hóng Zhú is a heritage durian variety — it’s not commercially farmed at scale like Mao Shan Wang or D24, so it’s harder to source. The flavour is rich, complex, and less one-note than mass-market durian.
Paired with the glutinous rice base, it’s a kueh that durian lovers keep coming back for.
Available as part of our premium range — check availability when ordering, as supply depends on the durian season.

Section B: Storage & Freshness
Q8 : How should I store Nonya kueh to keep it fresh?
Our kueh is made fresh without preservatives, so proper storage matters:
Same-day consumption gives you the best taste and texture — this is always our recommendation.
Refrigerating: Store rice-based kueh (like Kueh Salat or Kueh Lapis) in the chiller section. They’ll keep for up to 3 days, but texture will firm up.
Reheating: Steam refrigerated kueh for 4–5 minutes to restore the soft, chewy texture (highly recommended). Alternatively, microwave with a small cup of water beside it for 1–2 minutes.
Tip: Avoid freezing kueh if possible — the starch structure changes and some varieties won’t recover well even after reheating.
Q9 : How long does Nonya kueh last?
Because we don’t use preservatives or artificial stabilisers, our kueh is best consumed within 24 hours of purchase for peak freshness. If refrigerated properly (chiller, airtight container), rice-based kueh can last up to 3 days — but expect some texture change. Kueh with fresh coconut topping (like Ondeh Ondeh) should be eaten the same day, as the grated coconut dries out / turns sour quickly.

Section D: Advance Orders & Timing
Q13 : How far in advance should I order Nonya kueh?
We recommend placing your order at least 3 days in advance. Every kueh is made fresh to order — we don’t batch-produce and store inventory.
For large orders, corporate events, or weddings, we suggest 5–7 days advance notice to ensure we can accommodate your full request.
Short notice? Contact us on WhatsApp or email — we’ll do our best to fit you in if our schedule allows.
Section F: Halal & Dietary Information
Q18 : Is Kueharmony halal-certified?
One of the most important topics in this Nonya kueh FAQ is dietary information and halal sourcing — covered in detail below.
We are not yet halal-certified by MUIS. However, we take this seriously and follow halal-conscious practices:
All ingredients are sourced from halal-certified suppliers
Our kitchen maintains strict separation of halal and non-halal items
Our team is trained in hygiene and halal-friendly food handling (SFA-approved certification). We update this Nonya kueh FAQ whenever our certification status changes — check back for the latest information.
We understand this matters and want to be upfront about our current status. If halal certification is essential for your event, we’d recommend checking MUIS-certified options alongside considering us.
